National Iyengar Yoga Day January 13th 2018
On Saturday 13th January 2018, Congleton Iyengar Yoga Centre, as did many other Iyengar Yoga centres and teachers across the country, offered free classes to celebrate National Iyengar Yoga Day. Two classes and this year a demonstration of the use of props in Iyengar yoga were held at the centre.
Christine Andrew and Julie Pieczarka taught the classes and a range of people with varying degrees of fitness and flexibility came and enjoyed the benefits that Iyengar yoga can bring.
This is the third year that we have participated in National Iyengar Yoga Day which is a great opportunity for people of all ages and levels of fitness to come and try Iyengar yoga for themselves.
Christina organised a demonstration of poses (asanas) by some of the teachers emphasising how props can be used to help people into the poses if they are lacking in flexibility or recovering from injury. As flexibility improves with practice then the use of the props can be reduced over time.
