I first started practising Iyengar Yoga regularly in 1992 whilst at University in Manchester. I have continued to seek out Iyengar Yoga whilst moving around the North West. After settling in Cheshire I have been practising with Christina Niewola, in Congleton since 2003.

I qualified to teach Iyengar Yoga in 2009 and gained my Junior Intermediate certificate in 2015. I also enjoy enhancing my knowledge by attending regular workshops and seminars to gain further understanding of yoga and the Iyengar method. “It is so fulfilling to see students enjoy classes, leaving re-invigorated and relaxed”.

My Dad first introduced me to Yoga – he saw BKS Iyengar when he came to Manchester many years ago. I followed his footsteps and have practised Yoga in many different places and under different teachers with different styles. I met Christina Niewola about 15 years ago and began practising Iyengar Yoga under her tutelage. I could see the benefits of this style of Yoga: its precision and fine attention to detail brings challenge and progression. It is a method which is really accessible to all levels of ability: complete beginners can learn the asanas (postures) in a very safe and controlled way. Well practised yogis can demonstrate the beauty and strength of the asanas and definitely inspire us to continue with our own development.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to train as a teacher of Iyengar Yoga with Christina and was really happy to become qualified to teach the Introductory Level 1 and 2 Course in June 2017. I feel privileged that I am now in a position to share what I love about Yoga with others and I know my passion for Yoga is evident in my classes.

I first started Iyengar Yoga as a student of Christina Niewola at the Congleton Iyengar Yoga Centre in 2012. I was brought to class by fellow Teacher Louise Wallace as my first ever experience of any type of yoga and I was instantly hooked and totally engaged, Iyengar Yoga suits my logical brain and also brings immense benefit to my body which has suffered as a result of a careless owner! I was very fortunate to be endorsed onto the Teacher Training Course in 2015 by Christina and embarked on the two year program culminating in achieving my Introductory (Level 1) certificate in 2017, just before my 40th Birthday.

I now have a regular teaching slot at the Congleton Centre and I teach a weekly class at work as part of a fantastically supported Well-Being program. I love attending workshops and have been a regular attendee of the IYA Convention since starting my Yoga journey.

Iyengar Yoga has been a source of resilience and strength for me for the last twenty five years. I have had the privilege of finding Iyengar Yoga when I needed it most; during injury, bereavement and major life events. I have been inspired by many great Iyengar teachers; at Manchester & District Iyengar Institute, in Warsaw, Poland over ten years and finally by Christina Niewola in Congleton. Christina has encouraged me to take my practice to the next level through the teacher training.

As a qualified teacher with Introductory Level 2 Yoga Certificate, my classes enable me to share the sense of wellbeing that practicing Iyengar Yoga has always given me. I regularly attend workshops around the country to maintain and develop my practice. The Iyengar Method is a physical and mindful practice that enables deep relaxation and sustains the body through fatigue and injury, nourishing and maintaining a positive zest for life.

I first experienced yoga on the beaches of Thailand almost a decade ago. Returning home I sought out my local yoga class and after experiencing a few styles I thankfully found Iyengar and have been a dedicated student ever since. Iyengar yoga's attention to positioning, alignment and breathing ensures I learn something new each time I practice and gain a greater understanding of my body.

After practicing for many years I wanted to take my knowledge and skills to the next level and be able to share this with others in a correct and safe way. I embarked on the teacher training course with Christina and achieved the Introductory Level 2 Iyengar Yoga Certificate which I hope to build upon soon. In addition to teaching at Congleton Iyengar Yoga Centre I regularly attend classes with Christina to further my own personal practice, as well as teaching many other classes across South Manchester.
